    Re: How did scrimmages go?

We're always a week behind Tennessee this time of year. Gate City has their Blue-White game tomorrow. The first scrimmages for everyone will be next week.

Gate City will scrimmage Volunteer, and Powell Valley scrimmages Tennessee High. I'd love to see that one.

I read your comments on coacht about the Maryville/OR scrimmage. It sounds like you guys will have another great year down that way.

How did that scrimmage with OR go Ron?? I hear there's some heat on that OR coach after the season they had last year.

Oak Ridge will be much better this year. They lost a ton of kids off their 2005 team. The 2006 seniors were a small group.

Maryville has a long ways to go on offense. Defense will be very good.

Stanton Stevens should have stayed at Austin East. At AE he was well loved. Oak Ridge fans want you gone unless you win a title.

Yeah, I know Oak Ridge lost a lot from that 2005 team, not the least of which was Spencer Gulmire. Who do you think will be the top teams in the Knoxville area this year Ron?? I know Knox Catholic was tough last year but lost a ton of guys. How about Alcoa and Fulton?? I wish I could make it to see an Alcoa/Maryville game.

    Re: How did scrimmages go?

Catholic will still be loaded. They lost Harrison Smith but have some more studs coming back. They have a junior lineman that every school in the SEC wants in Zac Tait. Tait is 6'4 300lbs.

Alcoa will be good enough to compete for a 2A title. But! They aren't as strong as they have been the last few years. Their freshmen class is awesome. I expect several more state titles with this group.

Maryville will be very strong this year. Aaron Douglas looks good. Steven Shiver is a kid to watch. He is 6'4 210lbs and will knock your head off.Maryville has a great quarterback in Brent Burnett. KY,Purdue and UNC are his favorites.UT is still looking at him but hasn't offered. Maryville is stacked at receiver and defensive backs.Tyler Clendenen is the speed receiver. He runs a 4.5,Shiver is the big possesion receiver. Those 2 guys along with Caleb Clement and Chris Jordan make up a great secondary. Clement is a guy who will knock your head off.Maryville has a great defensive line. All of their defensive linemen are around the 6'240lbs range. Very athletic bunch that can run.Maryville has 2 small running backs that are tough as nails that run a 4.5. They are missing that big tailback that they have had the last few years. Maryville needs for the OLine,Linebackers and a kicker to step up.

Fulton will be good.I expect Catholic to be the team this year in 3A. Austin East should be pretty good.

Oak Ridge will compete with Ooltewah for the region crown.
